Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be observed next Monday, January 17th. Here are more facts about Dr. King.
Thurs.:
- King helped to organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The next year, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. He’s considered one of the greatest speakers in US history.
- George Washington & Abraham Lincoln are the only other Americans to have had their birthdays observed as a national holiday.
Fri.:
- In a speech on April 3, 1968, he told the audience: “I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you.” Oddly enough, he was assassinated the next day by escaped convict & known racist, James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968 while standing on a hotel balcony in Memphis.
- Dr. King was a courageous hero who inspired millions of people to right a historical wrong. He is regarded as one of the greatest American leaders of all time. His impact on the USA and wider world is still felt long after his death.

- K-6 Patrioteer Youth Wrestling will begin on Tues., January 18th and if you choose to participate, your parents will be responsible for giving you a ride. There is a Facebook page for more information…MPCG Wrestling Club.
